How to Dress for the First Date like a Pro

how to dress on a first date

Girls spend hours and hours thinking about their outfit for the next event, let alone for the first date. And we sometimes mock them for that, but when the time comes for us to pick the combination for anything – we realize it’s actually a daunting and nerve-racking job. Especially if that occasion is the first date with somebody you like a lot. You definitely don’t want to embarrass yourself in front of them, and you want to make them realize that they shouldn’t change anything about you – not even your clothes. So, if you have a first date around the corner, you don’t only have to think about where to go, but what to wear as well. If you have no idea how to dress and impress, take a look at these tips – we promise you great success.

1. Think before you act

The first thing you need to do is stop stressing out. Even though it’s easier said than done, and even though clothes can indeed say a lot about people, it’s very important to take it slowly and not rush. The thing you definitely don’t want to do is leave everything for the last minute. Think of your combination a couple of days before the actual date – in your head, of course. What is the thing you would want to wear, what colors suit you and what enhances your figure? That way, you will be able to change your outfit idea if you find something else that matches better with the jeans you wanted or the new shoes you bought. Another tip: if you want to get a haircut, do it a couple of days before the date, as well. That way, you will be fresh, and still not give the impression that you tried very hard for the date.

2. Dress to impress

You certainly want to bring your best game, but make sure to keep it within your style. You don’t want to experiment on your first date, as you never know how that will turn out. Moreover, think about the venue that you’re taking your date to. For example, if it’s a very formal restaurant where you will get to know each other over a fancy dinner, choosing one of the best men’s suits sounds like a good idea, but make sure it’s well-fitted. Being formal and stylish can really make a good impact. However, if it’s a casual first date, and you’re a sporty person, be careful not to overdress. Which bring us to our next tip…

3. Don’t overdo it

There’s a fine line between being fashionable and simply too much. Even though there are timeless pieces and accessories that are very advisable to have on the first date, such as a very good watch, make sure to pair everything in the right way. If you’re going with a bold piece of clothing, such as a neon T-shirt or colorful pants, choose something minimalistic to pair it with. 2018 is the year of minimalism, and you want to give the impression that even though you’re not a fashionista, you really do follow fashion to a certain extent.

4. Don’t forget the accessories

We mentioned the watches as must-have accessories for your first date. However, there are other things that you need to think about, as well. For example, if you chose an outdoor venue during the day for your first date, and you live in a sunny place, having good sunglasses is a must – you definitely don’t want to spend the date making funny faces because of the sun. If you’re thinking of wearing jewelry – mind this, as it’s quite tricky. There are two options here: a) if you don’t pay attention to this, you will look like a member of an alternative rock band from the 2000s, or b) you will choose one minimalistic piece of jewelry such as a necklace or a bracelet and be fashionable and probably quite sexy to your date.

5. Ask for help

Finally, learn from your mistakes. Think about all of your disastrous fashion combos and make sure NOT to repeat them. You can also always ask a couple of your friends (who, in your opinion, dress perfectly) to give you certain tips and tricks for the upcoming date. You should never be embarrassed to ask for fashion advice – after all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

What else can we say except – think carefully and good luck! You can also find a lot of inspiration online, if you just google celebrities and their casual (or formal) outfits. Make sure to follow these steps and we promise you that you will definitely look on fleek.
