The guidelines for 21st century workwear are typically a bit undefined today. Often acceptable styles vary from office to office, and largely depend on your role, which can make the whole thing a little bit confusing. At Thomas and George, we like to embrace the versatility and creativity that modern day workwear offers us. Just 20 years ago workwear style was limited and strict, whereas today the options are endless. Read on to find out how to prefect workwear style, for the 21st century…
Smart Casual
Many work places take a much more relaxed approach to workwear today, but we still like to keep that smart edge where possible. Smart casual doesn’t have to mean mainstream or mundane, and there are loads of ways to inject your own personality into your workwear look. For your smart casual look, try a pair of chinos in your favourite colour. Camel, grey, black and burgundy work well for the office. Pair with a tailored shirt in a complimenting colour, and make your own with a unique pair of cufflinks and a statement watch.
No Rules
You might find your place of work have completely thrown out the rule book when it comes to office attire. This enables you to have a lot of fun, but it doesn’t mean you have to go completely casual if you’re not comfortable with this. For an office that encourages you to embrace your own style, consider wearing something similar to what you might wear on the weekend, with a smart edge. We love black straight leg jeans teamed with a long sleeve polo shirt for a more casual office. Enhance this look with a leather bag and leather shoes in the same shade.
The Suit
If your role requires you to be client facing, you might find a stylish suit is required. We believe that every man should own at least one perfectly fitting suit, that can take you through from work to wedding, simply swapping a few accessories to suit the occasion. To ensure your suit fits perfectly without spending a small fortune, buy a suit that is too long in the leg and arms and have it professionally tailored to fit. For the workplace, a navy blue or grey suit is perfect. Invest in a few stylish and fitted shirts to mix and match with, as well as ties for those really smart occasions, and pocket squares to add personality.
